Is liposuction permanent?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions Dr Mooz gets asked during his liposuction consultations. If you’re investing time and money in a cosmetic surgery procedure, you want to know how long you can expect the results to last.

According to the most up-to-date research, we have a set number of fat cells, known as adipocytes, when we reach adulthood and, if we maintain a stable weight, the total number of fat cells does not change, although there is a turnover of approximately 10% of fat cells per year.

If we lose a significant amount of weight, then those fat cells can shrink. However, extreme weight gain can cause those fat cells to both grow in size and number.

Liposuction removes fat cells permanently and they can never come back. However, if you gain a significant amount of weight after your lipo procedure, then the existing fat cells in the treatment area will grow bigger and, eventually, can replicate.

How much weight can you lose with liposuction?

It is important to have realistic expectations from any cosmetic surgery procedure, and liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. The amount of fat cells taken from the treated area will be relatively small and focused on improving your body shape and removing any stubborn pockets of fat that are marring your physique.

Therefore, it is important that you are near to or at your ideal body weight and able to maintain this post-procedure to ensure you get the optimal aesthetic outcome and be able to enjoy your results for a long time.

Am I an ideal candidate for high-definition liposuction?

Dr Mooz has recently completed the Total Definer Masterclass, under Dr Alfredo Hoyos, a world-leader in body contouring surgery and high def lipo. This unique training opportunity allowed Dr Mooz to further hone his skills and learn from the plastic surgeon who created Vaser High Definition Liposculpture and is considered a true artist, able to create beautiful, contoured bodies.

Vaser Hi-Def is a sculpting rather than de-bulking procedure and Dr Mooz will remove small amounts of fatty tissue to reveal the muscular structure below. It is best suited to very fit and slim men and women who already have good muscle tone and are commited to a strict diet and exercise regime.
