What is Micro Lipo?
Micro Lipo is the most recent cutting edge innovation in the field of liposuction and is a highly effective yet minimally invasive alternative to traditional liposuction.
It involves using small incisions and microcannulas to gently remove unwanted fat under the skin which is resistant to diet and exercise. It is a sculpting procedure that aims to enhance the body’s contour, definition and physique.
Micro Lipo VS. Traditional Liposuction
In traditional liposuction techniques, incisions are made for a metal tube to pass through into the areas of excess fat. This tube is then connected to a suction pump and is moved back and forth under the skin to collect and remove unwanted fat. Historically, this technique is known to cause significant bruising and swelling with extended recovery times.
However modern liposuction methods have revolutionised and can now be performed with much smaller devices meaning significant reductions in blood loss, trauma, bruising and has also been proven to be less painful.
Micro Lipo can also be carried out under local anaesthetic meaning it avoids the risks and prolonged recovery time associated with general anaesthetic. The rapid post-operative recovery means that you can return to normal activities much quicker. There is no need for stitches after the procedure and you should be able to return to work within 2 days and exercise within a week.
Micro Lipo Procedure
During the procedure, a very diluted local anaesthetic is injected into layers of fat which causes the areas to become swollen and firm. It is this swelling that then helps to separate the fat cells from the surrounding tissue. The fat is then removed using microcannulas with a diameter of less than 3mm and can often remove up to 3.5 litres of fat in one single session.
Micro Lipo can be used on the following areas of the body:
- arms
- inner thighs
- knees
- flanks
- abdomen
- male chest
- chin
- neck
It is essential that your treatment begins with a bespoke consultation that details the procedure and ensures that you are suitable for liposuction surgery. This will include your medical history, expectations from surgery, risks and complications and aftercare regime.
