lipo and weight loss

Last week we touched on some common misconceptions about liposuction, but one of the most prevailing is that lipo is a weight loss procedure. Liposuction is a highly efficient way to recontour the body and permanently remove stubborn pockets of fat, but it is not a quick fix weight loss method.

Here’s the truth about liposuction and losing weight:

Lipo results aren’t immediate

True: Many patients think that they’ll see an instant body transformation after a liposuction procedure. However, there will be a degree of swelling in the immediate recovery period, and it can take between one to three months to see the final outcome. Dr Mooz also encourages you to wear compression garments to ensure the best results.

Fat loss equals weight loss

False: Many patients think that permanently removing excess fat will help them lose weight. However, liposuction is most effective for men and women that are near or at their ideal body weight and just have stubborn pockets of fat that are proving resistant to diet and exercise.

Dr Mooz offers micro-cannula liposuction, known as MicroLipo, which uses small cannulas to finely sculpt the body’s contours and add definition. The technique can remove up to 3.5 litres of fat and can contour the arms, inner thighs, knees and under the chin as well as larger areas as the abdomen and flanks.

Fat loss is permanent

True and false: the fat cells that are removed during liposuction are permanently removed and will not regenerate. However, if you gain weight after your procedure, the remaining fat cells in the target area and the rest of the body can enlarge.

It’s easier to lose weight after liposuction

Often true: many of Dr Mooz’s lipo patients report that they have successfully achieved their weight loss goals or found it easier to maintain a healthy body weight after their lipo procedure. This is usually because their mindset has transformed and they are motivated to sustain their results.
